A Letter From the Owner – Update August 5, 2025

SB5, REDISTRICTING, AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR HEMP

Texas State Capitol Building in Austin

Texas lawmakers are still in a special session, but the focus has shifted.

The Senate passed SB5, the bill that would ban almost all hemp-derived THC products including flower, vapes, and edibles. But in the last week, the fight over midterm redistricting has completely taken over the session. A group of lawmakers left the state to break quorum, which means the House cannot vote on any bills until enough members return.

If quorum is never met, this special session will end on August 19, and SB5 will die with it. That means hemp products would remain fully legal in Texas for now. The governor could call another special session, but at the moment, redistricting is the top priority, and hemp regulation has taken a back seat.

From a pro-hemp perspective, this pause is a good sign. It gives more time for voices supporting a reasonable, regulated market to be heard instead of rushing through a ban.
